Quit Complaining About Too Many Prince Facebook Posts

Dear Facebook friends,

In my Facebook feeds, I see your grumblings about Prince. Your posts say you are tired of seeing things about Prince on Facebook.  Or something of that nature. Also, I see some folks agreeing with you.

You got to understand.  Music stars touch people in many ways. When folks are sad, they listen to their favorite musician to help heal emotional wounds. Also, that same musician inspired many people to pick up an instrument. More than likely, their favorite musician may have been the soundtrack to their teenage years.  When that musician dies, the pain hurts the same as a favorite relative dying.

For me personally, Prince showed black kids they can be rock stars too.  The words “rock star” was mainly reserved for white artists. I wasn’t down for that gender-bending look. Yet, I did learn I should express myself anyway I should.  Carrying that lesson earned the good reputation my poetry still carries in Orlando.

Prince also talked about one of my favorite subjects.  From Little Red Corvette: “Girl, you got an ass like I never seen.”  This was one of the first lyrics I heard appreciating the big booty.

It isn’t as if people respect one person’s death over the other. Also, it isn’t as if they think someone holds more importance than another person.  Folks are just grieving over someone whose music touched them.

So, stop being an asshole. Your Facebook friends hadn’t forgot about the photos you post of your kids.  For those pics, they will still give you thumbs up. When you post your own personal pains and troubles, your Facebook friends hadn’t forgotten about them.  After seeing those posts, some of your Facebook friends will respond to it.

So please, exercise common courtesy and let your Facebook friends grieve over a favorite musician. Again, stop being an asshole.

Yours truly,

Patrick Scott Barnes AKA Stone Crazy

About Patrick Scott Barnes

Most of Central Florida knows Stone Crazy (Patrick Scott Barnes) as a poet. Yet, he also photographs, DJ and blogs. The rest of the time, he's guzzling booze in a Central Florida bar.
